Join Adobe’s Laura Pursley and Shawn McDaniel as they discuss the democratization of the hardware necessary, how camera makers like RED and Fujifilm are building this function directly into their latest cameras, and -most importantly- the benefits to editors and creative storytelling in post-production.

With a career spanning movie marketing, independent film production, and imaging technology, Laura Pursley brings deep audience knowledge and communication prowess to her work within Frame.io and Adobe. Pursley previously launched the FX9, FX6, and FX3 cameras while at Sony Electronics. She was also instrumental in the expansion of post house Light Iron from its origin in Hollywood to locations in New York, New Orleans, and Atlanta. Pursley frequently volunteers as a career mentor, and is an expert grower of heirloom tomatoes.

Shawn McDaniel
Instructional Media Specialist| Frame.io, an Adobe Company

Shawn McDaniel’s career as an independent filmmaker began while he honed his video editing skills working at Buzzfeed, MGM, and Riot Games and as a trainer for Apple. At Frame.io, an Adobe company, McDaniel is the Instructional Media Specialist, teaching technical filmmaking skills and post-production workflows to industry professionals. Still possessing a passion for directing, McDaniel recently produced a proof-of-concept web series called My Death Co.

Exploring the Making of "American Murderer" - Previs On an Indie Budget

Join us for a behind the scenes look at of the making of the true crime film American Murderer. Director Matthew Gentile and Editor Matt Allen will be particularly highlighting their pre-production planning and how they used previs on an indie film budget to achieve the vision for the film.

Be sure to check out the full film, American Murderer, in theaters on October 21st and digital on October 28th. 

 

Our Presenters:

MATT ALLEN (EDITOR) is a Los Angeles based filmmaker and the recipient of the American Cinema Editor’s prestigious Eric Zumbrunnen Fellowship. Matt recently edited his first feature film American Murderer. He also served as the film’s pre-visualization editor, music editor, and score producer. Matt began his movie journey in the studio offices of CBS Films and Voltage Pictures (which included working at the Cannes Film Festival twice). Through his work experience and ACE fellowship, Matt has been mentored by academy award nominated editors including a long term editor/assistant-editor collaboration with Matt Chesse ACE (Finding Neverland & Quantum of Solace). Matt’s assistant editor credits include Hollywood feature films Disney’s Christopher Robin, Bloodshot starring Vin Diesel and Sweet Girl starring Jason Momoa. Matt holds a BFA in Media Production from Pepperdine University and a MFA in Editing from the American Film Institute.

MATTHEW GENTILE (DIRECTOR) is an award-winning director and screenwriter based in Los Angeles. He most recently completed his first feature film, American Murderer, a true-crime drama that stars Tom Pelphrey (Ozark, Outer Range), Ryan Phillippe (Breach, Crash), Idina Menzel (Uncut Gems, Frozen) and two-time Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver (Animal Kingdom, Silver Linings Playbook). Saban Films & Universal Pictures have acquired the film’s worldwide distribution rights; it is slated for a theatrical release on October 21st, 2022.

A graduate of the prestigious directing program at the AFI Conservatory, Matthew’s thesis film “Frontman” won the Student Emmy for Best Directing. Shortly after graduating, Matthew was hired to come back to AFI as an alum and direct a second thesis film Lawman which starred Lance Reddick (The Wire, Bosch). That short played over 100 festivals worldwide and won the Dolby + Vizio Vision Award at AFI Fest. After completing “Lawman”, Matthew went on to direct a proof-of-concept short for American Murderer which starred Jonathan Groff (The Matrix: Ressurections, Mindhunter) and Amanda Crew (Silicon Valley). 

Currently, Matthew is writing his second feature, The Socialite, a true-crime drama that is based on the book “A Socialite Scorned” by Kerrie Droban and developing multiple projects in the true-crime genre.

What's New in RX 10

Join us for our September meeting as we take a look at the new features in RX 10, which include an entirely new way to navigate and edit speech and dialogue files, major improvements to assistive technology, an expansion of frequency resynthesis, and a few things post production professionals have been asking for. We are thrilled to have RX Product Manager, Mike Rozett for our tour guide as we explore this brand new version!

Mike Rosett

Mike Rozett is a product leader with more than 20 years of experience creating, developing and launching products and content for professionals, consumers, viewers, and listeners. A principal product manager at iZotope (Soundwide), Mike is the product manager for RX, the industry-standard software for repairing and restoring damaged and noisy audio. Under his leadership, RX won a Scientific and Technical Oscar in 2020 and an Engineering Emmy in 2019.

Solutions Not Numbers;

Picking the Best Storage for Creators

Join us for our August Meeting with Jeff Greenberg and OWC for a discussion of what you need to think about when assessing and weighing your storage needs and options. We’re going to talk about solutions that make sense, and we’ll include as little about numbers or data rates as possible and focus on what matters in production and post production.

The good news is you won’t need a calculator for this one, but will need to bring your storage questions for any project(s) you are working on or intend to work on.
