June 9th, 2016

Our June LAPPG 8th Anniversary meeting was filled with valuable networking, great giveaways and informative presentations.

Posting A Feature Documentary: A Case Study

We were honored to welcome the filmmakers from the feature documentary, “Dying to Know: Ram Dass & Timothy Leary” narrated by Robert Redford.

Presenters included:

Michael Donnelly – Co-producer / Post Supervisor145997069257056284a72bc

Ken S Polk, CAS – Re-recording Mixer / Sound Design

Ethan Boehme – Editor, Final conform and online delivery

These post production professionals explored the process of putting this film together for over 20 years. During this period, filmmaking, post production and exhibition technology, and the process of finishing a film for the marketplace all changed radically. They will share the war stories, tips, techniques, triumphs and tragedies every independent filmmaker should know; what it takes to get your film finished and onscreen; how to keep it real; how to spend your dollars once; and how not to be your own worst enemy.

This documentary is a compilation of 80 years of narrative, newsreel and original footage, photos and audio. The feature documentary revisits the story of the 30-year association between two 60’s icons in an entertaining and enlightening reinterpretation of their lives and work.

It is being distributed by the filmmakers themselves. Dying to Know: Ram Dass & Timothy Leary opens in Los Angeles at Laemmle’s Royal on June 17th. Tickets for the screening are available at: http://www.laemmle.com/films/40722
