We were thrilled to have been invited to Canon Hollywood Professional Technology & Support Center to hold our October meeting. We had a great turnout and started the evening with DigitalFilm Tree’s CTO Guillaume Aubuchon who discussed their latest initiatives in moving post out of the facility and into the production and the future of post production. He spoke about dailies being completed in editorial, online being completed in editorial, color correction and 72TB of San Storage being done in editorial. He showed us some of the before and after of some of the terrific work DFT’s done on “NCIS Los Angeles.” He also talked about the technological and psychological hurdles associated with this transition.
Then Amy Kawadler of Canon gave us an overview of the great space we were enjoying and she told us about the services that are offered there.
After the break, HP’s Tery Brown introduced us to their new mobile workstations with Thunderbolt, the ZBook 15 and ZBook 17. We also were introduced to the new ThunderBolt card that’s an option to the Z820, Z620 and Z420 desktop workstations. Terry answered our questions about how these systems can now take advantage of high-speed data transmission between Z Workstations, displays and peripherals, providing the industry’s fastest, most versatile I/O connections.
And finally we had Canon Professional Marketing Representative give us an overview of Canon EOS 70D – a trailblazing powerhouse featuring a revolutionary autofocus technology that unlocks the potential of Live View: Dual Pixel CMOS AF. He also spoke about The Canon EOS C100 Digital Video Camera bringing together the renowned technology of Canon CMOS sensors, DIGIC DV III Image Processor, and EF lens compatibility in a smaller, lighter body.
Members got to check out these camera hands-on and took a look at their 4K suite. It was a great meeting and we really appreciated the hospitality!
