April 17th, 2013 Meeting

Our April 17th meeting was worth the wait! We had to push it forward a week due to NAB falling on our usual meeting date but both those who attended the show in Las Vegas as well as those who were unable to go got a lot of key information from the evening’s first presentation.

We welcomed the Chief Operating Officer of MelroseMAC, Martin Vann and Antonio Nacrur, Technical Director of MelroseTEC who gave us an entertaining and informative look at what was seen at the show. With special attention played to Adobe and Avid, Martin and Antonio talked the Creative Cloud, MC7 and ProTools 11.

Then, after the break we welcomed Dariush Derakhshani, VFX and CG supervisor and award-winning CG generalist-lighter shared with us a valuable overview of how visual effects are created and the scores of people that are required and the workflows that are used to create these works of art. The evening really got interesting when Dariush answered questions and shared his personal experience about the current issues going on in the VFX community in Hollywood. The audience discussed the history of this particular industry as well as possible solutions. The evening ended on a hopeful note as Dariush assured us that as a working professional he is ultimately optimistic about the future of this industry.
