December 12th, 2012 Meeting
This meeting was filled with holiday cheer and certainly got off on the right foot with members bringing donations of over 200 cans of food for the Westside Food Bank. They came with arm loads, backpacks filled and boxes full of non-perishable items to help make some families holiday season a little brighter. We offer our members a hugh thank you for their generosity, thoughtfulness and compassion.
To make this holiday meeting even more special our wonderful partners at Blackmagic Design provided an amazing array of spectacular sweets and delicious desserts for us all to enjoy throughout the evening along with a continuous supply of Showbiz Cafe’s wide variety of coffees.
To end this year on a high note and for our members to know what to put on their wishlists we gathered the hottest plug-ins in audio, video and visual effects for our 2nd Plug-in Showcase. The festivities got underway when we welcomed back VP of Products for NewBlue Inc., Travis White, who showed us how efficient color correction and grading can be, natively in your NLE of choice, using NewBlue ColorFast. He showed us how to perform primary and secondary correction quickly, preserve skin while pushing more extreme grades, and use the combination of 5 masks, (3 luminance, color and shape) to isolate the most difficult corrections. He also showed us just how generous the folks at NewBlue FX are by donating 4 copies of ColorFast for this evenings giveaway.
Following Travis was the lovely Mary Poplin who returned to show us mocha Pro‘s amazing planar tracking, roto, lens, insert, and removal tools available in mocha Pro V3.1! Imagineer Systems also made our holiday a little brighter with a full install of mocha Pro valued at $1,495 for our giveaway!
Right before the break, Founder Woody Woodhall, CAS asked all attendees to check under their chairs as 15 lucky cards had been randomly placed. Those who found cards were then invited up to the the front table where we had a stash of gifts for our members including Lynda.com certificates, books, iphone speakers, mugs, shirts and more all wrapped and ready to be picked up.
At break time the treats were replenished and we brought out some yummy chocolate dipped strawberries courtesy of Blackmagic Design that were devoured practically before the trays were placed on the table!
After some networking and refreshments we were honored to have Emmy Award winning re-recording mixer and sound designer, Bob Bronow, CAS demonstrate how he uses iZotope RX to save audio on shows like Deadliest Catch, Ax Men, 1000 Ways to Die and The Colony. Along with the demo he shared some great stories and insight into what it’s like working on those shows. He provided a truly great presentation and wowed the audience with this powerful audio solution.
And last but certainly not least, we had Boris FX Senior Product Marketing Manager Kevan O’Brien demonstrate Boris Continuum Complete version 8. The attendees were impressed with the 3D particle effects, image restoration tools such as Noise Reduction and Flicker Fixer, lens flares, lights, etc. This plug-in set really opens up a world of possibilities and one lucky LAPPG attendee when home with a full install!
What a fantastic way to end a super special year. We thank our members, partners and the Showbiz Store & Cafe for their support and we look forward to a wonderful 2013!
