MANAGING MEDIA / PREVENTING DISASTER WITH CIRINA CATANIA

Just in time for Halloween, a very scary “horror story” from an incredibly prolific dsc09286_cirina-headshot-pc3-72-1000px-1filmmaker will be the subject of this month’s presentation.

Imagine that you are running a creative production company. Your clients are studios, networks and you are also in post production on three self-funded features, one of which is an investigative documentary that has taken over ten years of work.

What is the worst possible thing that could happen to you as a producer/director/editor/writer?  How about losing all your data, interviews, footage, music, production notes, and scripts for upcoming projects as well as contracts, financials, admin files and archived works from a 30+ year career!

Picture 200 laptops lined up on a lonely desert road.  A semi-truck comes barreling down the highway and runs over ALL of them. Gone. What now?

In the 5 months since malware was downloaded onto her computer and infected every owc-250drive that was attached, the amazing specialists at Other World Computing, SoftRAID and DriveSavers have worked tirelessly to help recover a portion of anything salvageable. They are still at it.

This month we will have the opportunity to hear about the hard won lessons learned by the uber talented and prolific writer/director/journalist, Cirina Catania (Co-founder of the Sundance Film Festival) when this horror story happened to her!

What has she learned?  How will this change how she works in the future and what can we learn from this?  Cirina will outline best practices for managing media in the mega-K world and how to prevent this type of disaster from creeping into your frightening future.

You’ll learn how Cirina survived as her professional world was crumbling down, how she has attacked the job of going through some of the data that was recovered but with absolutely no meta data including file names and creation dates, and how she is moving forward with her 3 feature documentaries entering post.

Come be horrified and then inspired by the spirit of this amazing storyteller and learn exactly what you can do to ensure a disaster like this doesn’t ever happen to you!
