DANNY CAHN

LAPPG member Danny Cahn is a picture editor and producer who has a long career in Hollywood and stays busy cutting. Danny got his break as the co-editor on CHEERS. Danny has worked in virtually every format, including half hour comedy (single and multi camera), one-hour drama, long form television (Movies of the Week and Mini-Series), and feature films. He has worked in traditional film editing rooms and on virtually every linear (tape-based) and non-linear digital editing systems but is a dedicated Avid user and fan of Media Composer. With a strong background in editing, Danny took his skills to the next level and worked in various producing and directing capacities. Currently, he is editing and co-producing the feature film “Dorfman”, a comedy film starring Elliot Gould and Sara Rue.

Danny has a history firmly rooted in Hollywood. His grandfather Phil Cahn edited most of the Abbott and Costello movies as well as countless features. Phil was also one of the founders of the Motion Picture Editors Guild in Hollywood. His Great Uncle Edward directed over 125 films and Danny’s father, Dann went on to edit at Desilu, where he mastered cutting the first three-camera show you may have seen called, “I Love Lucy.” He then became the autonomous head of postproduction at Desilu and helped launch many careers. Dann was honored with a career achievement award in 2000 from the American Cinema Editors and won the ACE Eddie award for editing “DEA”.

Danny is a past Vice President and Board member of the A.C.E. and is currently serving his second 3-year term on the Board of Directors of Motion Picture Editors Guild. We are proud to announce that Danny has just been elected President of the Editors Guild.

Danny has been raising and rescuing great danes for 20 years and he and his wife Holly are currently sharing their home with one great dane and two Siamese cats. A very busy guy, he still finds time to be a fixture at our meetings of the LAPPG.

Danny’s LAPPG Experience: “I am a closet tech geek but have always been wary of owning my own editing equipment. But after attending my first LAPPG meeting where Avid demoed the Media Composer 5 with all the bells and whistles, I made the leap. I have become a big fan of the LAPPG and attend when work and life allow me. I have even won the raffle twice in one night!!”
