Enjoy great films and an open bar at the NewFilmmakers Los Angeles (NFMLA) Film Festival on Saturday, June 29th!

NFMLA spotlights LGBTQ+ stories, including the world premiere of director Andrew Guerrero’s first feature film, Come Into Your Own.

The night begins with shorts program “Make Your Own Magic,” a collection of stories about magic in various forms and creating ones’ own solutions through determination, from literal magic to healing from mental illness to trying to create a small piece of a long lost better world for a child.

The evening continues with feature film Come Into Your Own, a first feature by filmmaker Andrew Guerrero and a part of InFocus: LGBTQ+ Cinema, which tells a story of the complicated ways that sexual identity can shift and the meaning attached to those shifts.

The night concludes with shorts program InFocus: LGBTQ+ Cinema, which takes viewers through a range of queer experiences through metaphor, genre, comedy and unflinching drama. Included are stories of familial acceptance, transition and finding oneself.

Tickets are $10 for single film programs and $15 for all film programs with open bar!

LUMBERJACK BUILDER 2.0

Philip Hodgetts will demonstrate Lumberjack Builder, a unique text driven NLE for Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro X. Builder picks up where transcription services finish. He will show how Builder creates stories from text ranges out of multiple transcripts. Stories can be read as text or played as video! There are comprehensive (but optional) logging tools for adding Keywords to Text Ranges.

In Builder you order transcripts in the app, or bring your own transcripts, and use the transcripts to drive the video and audio edit. Builder has fully featured Logging tools, including the world’s only Keyword Manager, and text correction tools in the Logging Window. In the Story Building view, Builder has comprehensive filtering so you can find the perfect sound bite quickly and easily. Selects go into a Storyline script. You can read the script, edit the text and play the video as the story develops. Export preliminary sequences for finishing in Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro X.

PHILIP HODGETTS is an expert in content metadata, particularly how it is applied to derive production metadata in post workflows for organization and pre-editing, with a prior history in knowledge system development. He is the President and CEO of two companies: Lumberjack System, an innovator in acquiring and using content metadata, and Intelligent Assistance Software, Inc, a technology developer specializing in metadata-enabled, XML-integrated workflows. He is the author of several books and has been a keynote speaker at many conferences. He is a thought leader in the application of Artificial Intelligence to production workflows.

Most editors are self-taught – learning post-production skills while working projects. This approach to learning leads to solid, dependable workflows, but it’s easy to miss techniques, shortcuts, buttons and preferences that might dramatically speed up and simplify the creative work of the editor. This  2- day training course offers a strong emphasis on both the foundations of the fundamentals and the advanced techniques, with just a cursory nod to the mid-level editing skills that self-taught editors will already know.

You know how to perform an edit but do you know why it’s called a three-point edit? Why would you choose to perform a four-point edit? Perhaps you know how to render but not necessarily why? And what impact does it have on output? Perhaps you’d like to use multi-camera editing tools but you’re not familiar with nesting sequences – a technique that’s just one step in the multi-camera workflow.
