Blackmagic Design Presents:
Cinematographer Bradley Stonesifer Discussing The Sundance Short Film “Me + Her”

Me + HerJoin cinematographer Bradley Stonesifer as he discusses his work on “Me + Her,” a live action short film by Island Creek Pictures, which was accepted into Sundance’s Short Film program in 2014. “Me + Her” is set in a fantasy world in the city of Cardboard where the main character, Jack Cardboard, goes on a journey to mend a broken heart. Bradley worked alongside Director Joseph Oxford to create an amazing world where all of the main characters and sets were built out of standard cardboard boxes on a one fifth scale. Bradley will discuss how the team devised and brought such a unique idea to life, how they met the demands of such an unusual workflow, the technology used, including affordable, easy to use and high quality Blackmagic Design cameras, as well as tips for submitting and getting accepted into Sundance.


Online Editor / Colorist Tal Discusses Workflow & The Marketplace For Freelancers

Y2Fresh off the latest seasons of “Wipeout” ON ABC and “Running Wild with Bear Grylls” on NBC, Online Editor/Colorist Tal will discuss his workflow and the current marketplace for freelancers in LA. From big facilities of the past to the online coloring suites of today, Tal will speak about calibration importance and telecommuting.

Tal is a longtime member of the LAPPG and a 20+ year veteran of the online editing world from Israel to LA. After working at the Post Group and Chainsaw on shows like “Behind the Music” and “The Oscars”  he moved to the freelance world and has worked on different projects from movies like “Syriana” with George Clooney to TV shows like “Dancing With the Stars” to name just a few.

10th ANNIVERSARY HOLLYSHORTS FILM FESTIVAL AND FILM CONFERENCE AUGUST 14-23, 2014

The upcoming 10th anniversary of the HollyShorts Film Festival and Film Conference is the most star-studded in the festival’s history, featuring participation the most recognizable faces and companies in Film and TV. The festival takes place August 14-23, 2014 at the TCL Chinese Theater, Roosevelt Hotel and additional surrounding locations throughout Hollywood.

The fest will feature over 400 short form projects. Programming highlights include:

Opening Night, Thursday August 14, 2014
Alumni brothers Joe and Anthony Russo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) who are receiving the HollyShorts Visionary Award. The fest will premiere Luke Wilson’s Award-winning short film Satellite Beach, which follows the unique journey of the Endeavor space shuttle as it travels through the streets of LA and the final move of the Atlantis space shuttle to the Kennedy Space Center. The King of Indie Animation Bill Plympton will receive the HollyShorts Animation Indie Icon Award on opening night and premiere his short film Footprints and he will show a clip from his new animated feature film Cheatin’ which is being released theatrical in Los Angeles that weekend. The Russo’s will be showing a 10-minute exhilarating clip from Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Stephanie Laing, Producer for some of the most popular shows including Veep, Eastbound & Down and Vice Principals, will premiere her short film Trouble & the Shadowy Deathblow. On had for her big night will be the cast which includes: Tony Hale(Arrested Development), Andy Buckley(Bridesmaids), Jean Villepique (I Love You Man),Tim Baltz (Drunk History), and Frankie Faison (Banshee). Also supporting Laing’s premiere will be friends and colleagues Danny McBride, and Chris Addison (In The Loop) and other cast members from Veep and Eastbound & Down.

HollyShorts is also premiering on opening night The Visitant, a short film horror by Nick Peterson produced by Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite) and co-produced Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville). Directed by Nick Peterson, The Visitant stars Amy Smart (Crank) and Doug Jones (Pan’s Labyrinth).

HollyShorts opening night will also feature Edoardo Ponti, son of legendary actress Sophia Loren, who will be presenting his short film The Human Voice starring Sophia Loren. The Human Voice, which made a splash at this years’ Cannes Film Festival, is a gripping adaptation of Jean Cocteau’s one-woman play.

Director Renny Maslow will be on hand presenting his short film Effed co-written by and starring Ethan Sandler (The Bourne Supremacy) and Adrian Wenner (Whitney). Effed! also stars Zach Braff, Ted Levine, Talia Tabin and Brian Gattas.

Director David Martin Porras will present his acclaimed short film Inside The Box, which stars Wilson Bethel (Heart of Dixie) and Regina King. The film is Executive Produced by Pau Brunet.

HollyShorts Film Conference August 15-21-Roosevelt Hotel
After incredible feedback from last year’s panel series, the organizers have once again beefed up the lineup for the HollyShorts Film Conference, a co-located event taking place at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood. Seed&Spark, the one stop shop where filmmakers can crowdfund, distribute and interact with their audiences is joining forces with Tugg, the platform that gives audiences power to bring movies to local theaters to deliver the keynote address at the upcoming the Film Conference, which is Presented By Method Studios. Other participating companies include Warner Bros. TV, Lionsgate, CBS, General Assembly, PGA Digital, CSA, Route 1 Films, DigitalLA, Voltage, Electus, Women In Film, Shout Factor’s Scream Factory, Fangoria, ShortsHD, UCLA Extension, IndieFlix, Tribeca Film Festival, The Weinstein Co., AMPAS, The Hollywood Reporter, New Filmmakers LA, Evil Slave, Quick Film Budget, Final Draft, Full Moon Entertainment, Circus Road, Three Point Capital, among others.

Pixels of Fury is a live creative tournament that pits contestants against each other — and against the clock. For our first video edition, competitors will have 45 minutes to put together a 30-second trailer from Shutterstock clips – all in front of a live audience.

In addition to the competition, you can look forward to an open bar, photobooth, tunes, and general merriment.
